What to expect
The Couple Recovery Checklist below (available as a free download), provides the structure for the class. Each lesson addresses at least one of the checklist categories providing media presentations and a “Call To Action” challenge for students to better integrate the concepts in the blueprint. The course includes 60 minutes of video and audio presentations, plus additional reading and activities designed to help students begin to integrate the concepts into clinical practice.
Why A Relational Approach to Recovery?
Partners impacted by an addictive disorder, or any other major health or mental health disorder are often separated in treatment models that emphasize individual recovery (or therapy) before starting any couples work. Unfortunately, health and mental health professions may not know that the stress and trauma experienced in addiction not only follows partners into recovery, but the stress and trauma of recovery brings a new set of problems and difficulties that couples are often unprepared to deal with. Research indicates that a stable significant-other relationship is the single biggest predictor of successful long-term recovery.
