Gottman Training and Consultation
Training for therapists, counselors, and helping professionals
Learn From a Gottman Master Trainer
I always liked working with couples. But at one point I recognized that the lack of research-based approaches left a therapeutic void. Then I discovered Gottman Method Couples Therapy and decided to attend a Gottman Level 1 workshop. I immediately knew I found what I was looking for. I continued the training and became a Certified Gottman Therapist in 2007. The training I received in that process has been life-changing, professionally and personally.”
Robert Navarra, PsyD, LMFT
Certified Gottman Therapist
“I have co-authored with John Gottman two textbook chapters and three articles in the Encyclopedia of Couples and Family Therapy on Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This research on relationship stability and instability is ground-breaking “
Individual and Group Consultation
I frequently receive requests from therapists for consultation in their private practice setting and can make arrangement for either individual or group consultation if timing and availability permits. While some consultees seek consultation independently with some experience or training in the Gottman Method, no previous experience with Gottman Method is required to begin consultation.
If you are a therapist or counselor interested in receiving consultation in couples work, or in addictions treatment with individuals and/or couples, you can contact me for more information.
Gottman Workshops Training
I often co-present in the Level Trainings and will post upcoming events and workshops
Level 1 Clinical Training:
Bridging the Couple Chasm
Level 1 Training will give you new insights into treatment for couples who struggle, using proven assessment techniques and intervention strategies. You will view original videos of real couples from the famous Gottman “Love Lab,” as well as videos of Dr. Julie Gottman demonstrating assessment and interventions in a case example from her private practice.
Included in the registration price is a clinical training manual, which contains the core Gottman Method Couples Therapy assessments and interventions. You will be awarded a Certificate of Completion from The Gottman Institute.
Level 2 Clinical Training
Assessment, Intervention , and Co-morbidities
Building on what you learned in the Level 1 Training, you will review how to assess a couple’s Friendship Profile, Conflict Profile, and Shared Meaning Profile. You will be provided with a toolkit of interventions that couples can use as antidotes to the Four Horsemen and soothe physiological flooding.
This training is for mental health providers, allied professionals and clergy, students and interns, family clinic staff, professors/teachers of couples therapy, researchers in the social sciences, and employee assistance professionals.
Level 3 Clinical Training
There is no better way to learn how to apply Gottman Method Couples Therapy than the Level 3 Training. This advanced, practicum workshop is only offered in-person.
In a small-group setting, you will have the opportunity to practice and refine your use of Gottman Method therapy and receive personalized guidance in developing a roadmap for making sound clinical decisions. Learn to manage and address the co-morbidities we face as therapists and how we can transform them into effective healing methods for the couple. You will build on the knowledge obtained from Level 1 Training and Level 2 Training.
